Released in 2006, the title of Anne-Lise Larsens four-track EP, I'm Alive, is an affirmation of arrival and survival in the music world.
'I'm Alive' was entirely written, composed, arranged and performed by Anne-Lise, and recorded and produced in her studio.
AMO: Were there any specific ideas, musically speaking, you particularly wanted to capture with this recording? Anything you were determined to avoid?
A-L: The EP is called "IM ALIVE". While its not a live recording, the thing I really wanted to capture was the essence of myself as a performer. I love a live sound, an organic sound, like I might be singing in the next room. Because I love the sound of a band, I wanted to achieve a real band sounding recording, with plush acoustic drums, rich basslines and well arranged musical parts. Some of the feedback towards the EP has been along the lines of "wow, I love your band", so I think I was able to achieve this. Little do they know, it was just me programming, recording, playing and looping! I deliberately did not want vocal perfection so many of the tracks are a little sharp or flat here and there. Belying its one-woman origins, Im Alive appeals to a wider, shared experience, exploring tales of love, loneliness, the pursuit of dreams and the seduction of envy.
